For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. This song is straight-forward and, in typical hardcore fashion, to the point. Humans are slaves to sin and can only be set free by Jesus Christ. He is the one Who has the power to break the bondage we have to sin.
As slaves we have limited ability to choose what we can do. That is why we must count on God to bring us freedom. It all depends on the price Christ paid: His death and resurrection. The blood of no other can save us.
Of course the crux of the message of salvation, change and freedom is empowered by Christ within is. The power and life of the God Who created the universe living inside His children- what a wonderful truth!
